Low Iron Symptoms You Might Not Know About
Unusual Iron Deficiency Symptoms
From teenagers to women in their 50’s, low levels of iron is the number one thing I see in my clinical work. The one thing they usually have in common is that they’ve been told their levels are ‘totally normal.’ It’s easy to understand how that can be the case since the reference range for ferritin (basically your iron storage) is a massive 15-200!
When we think about low iron usually dizzy spells or feeling out of breath come to mind, but there are many other more unusual signs of low iron that sometimes get missed. Iron is how the body delivers oxygen to your muscles so when you’re low in iron, you’re low in a type of energy that no amount of coffee, snacks or sleep is going to revive.
Do You Have These Low Iron Symptoms?
Sore Thighs
Restless Legs
Heart Palpitations
Sore/Inflamed Tongue
Cold Hands
Cold Feet
Feeling Cold Often
Difficultly Sleeping or Focusing
Heavy Periods
Brittle Nails
If any of these sound like you ask your doctor to test your iron level. If you are told your levels are ‘normal’ ask what the ferritin number is. Understanding what your starting point is with your iron is the first step in getting back to feeling like you again.
